Our latest client is based in Perth, Western Australia, and they are the front-door to the Australian grains industry. They are a not-for-profit public company with a vision to enhance the international competitiveness and value of Australian export grains through science, technology and innovation.
This position supports the research & development activities as they relate to technical market support and research and innovation project activities through the provision of technical expertise in wheat quality testing and development of new methodologies.
In this role, you will be responsible for an array of duties including but not limited to:
Laboratory research and development - Wheat
provide high level technical support within a defined area of responsibility (understanding wheat quality requirements for Ramen noodles; assessment of new technologies (MixoLab, Auto SRC, Glutopeak).
As directed provide technical support in wheat technical market support (noodle evaluation with visiting experts).
Assist with maintenance of laboratory and experimental equipment used in research projects.
Maintain and update procedural and information resources as required
Wheat quality program support
Support wheat technical solutions, research and innovation and technical support
Stakeholder engagement and extension
Liaise with project managers, research scientists and grain quality technical officers regarding the organisation and operation of project activities and with other staff as directed.
Assist with preparation and delivery of training to clients as required.
Program management and compliance
Apply government regulations including relevant health and safety policy, guidelines and procedures, and equal employment principles to performance of work.
Apply the guidelines and principles of the Western Australian Public Sector Code of Ethics, Employment Standard and the Department’s Code of Conduct.
Apply risk management principles and processes to relevant work activities.
Direct the work of specialist consultants and assist in the preparation of project specifications as required.
Actively engage with and contribute to the overall development of the team
Degree in Cereal Chemistry, Agricultural Science or approved equivalent.
Demonstrated ability to carry out scientific research activities relevant to the agriculture, food and fibre industries. Emphasis on one or more of the following science disciplines: wheat quality, noodle and baking technology and food /food processing.
Sound knowledge and demonstrated technical competency in chemistry laboratories, methods and procedures as they relate to one or more of the following areas: flour testing, dough rheology, end product assessment
Some experience in facilitating the transfer, training and support of technical information involving Australian grain, its use and value to clients.
Demonstrated understanding of Occupational Safety and Health practices in a laboratory and office environment.
A current and valid Australian C (car) class motor drivers licence, or equivalent may be required for identified positions (if not currently held, must be acquired prior to commencement at applicant’s expense).
High level of knowledge in quantitative research methodologies
Possess strong analytical and methodological research skills
