Based in Brisbane, Queensland, our latest client is a growing firm whose core work typically involves collaborating with building industry related professionals on projects led by architects. They undertake a variety of work compatible with a small to medium practice and also collaborate with other structural engineering firms on larger projects. They are now seeking a Structural Engineer to join their growing team on a full-time basis.
Some tasks may include:
Continually seeking to strike a balance between finding value for money outcomes for clients and completing projects in a timely and efficient manner, within the defined budget.
Carrying out engineering calculations, design and analysis to required standards and in a timely manner. Preparation of associated documentation suitable for construction and certification.
Carrying out effective inspection and liaison on site on behalf of the firm.
Liaising with colleagues, other groups, external personnel and clients in a clear, courteous and professional manner.
Adjusting work methods appropriately to suit the role taken on various projects, e.g. working autonomously; working as a design team member for larger projects; working in a Project Manager or supervisory capacity.
Assisting in training and guidance of engineers and technicians.
Supplementing experience gained at work and technical challenges met at work with continuing professional development.
Developing contract with selected contemporaries and build networks capable of enhancing professional development and connecting with current issues and opportunities.
All applicants must have good interpersonal and communication skills and a genuine developing interest in building and architecture. Applicants must meet one of the following minimum levels:
Master's degree with a specialty in structural studies or bachelor's degree with first class honours
Experience greater than 6 months in a consulting environment.
Competent in the use of CAD for producing basic industry standard documentation or competent in the use of SketchUp (or similar) for illustrating structural concepts
Consulting office experience in the use of either RAM Concept or RAPT to produce detailed design of a concrete floor.
Consulting office experience in the use of an industry standard analysis package to contribute to the detailed design of a steel structure.
Experience greater than 3 years with a minimum of 2 years working on projects where the design was led by an architect.
Significant progress towards becoming a chartered engineer
Significant experience in the design of buildings using steel, timber and suspended concrete.
CAD experience per Level 1
Experience greater than 6 years with the majority of projects being led by an architect or involving significant architectural input. Experience as lead structural engineer on some projects. Some experience with forming contracts and managing budgets
NPER3 or RPEQ
CAD experience per Level 1
Building experience per Level 2 including post-tensioned concrete, prefabricated buildings or components, lateral design and analysis. Some experience with light weight structures utilising structural form is also desirable.
